Dear Diary... Rainy Wednesday.

I have a stationary bike for "supplemental" use. As in bad weather days etc.  NOT to be used for the majority of my cycling workouts. In the last 2 months, it has turned out to be my primary cycling tool. Why? The worst weather I have seen here in the south in years. That's why. Getting close to just stopping totally. This is indeed an activity that is good for my health in many ways. But honestly I have had it. This keeps up.... I will just quit till we actually get to a summer type weather. I realize that many people ride in all types of bad weather. And I don't care. I'm not gonna do that.

El Nino GO AWAY!!!!

 Worst winter ever here in the Deep south. They said (the "experts") that with an El Nino winter the southeastern US would be wetter and colder ALL winter. Ok so its spring now. ENOUGH!!!!  

Again, this morning 49F breezy Cold.

Wednesday Blues

 Headed for my cortisone hip injection. Lots of other things I would rather be doing today (see pic)  but this beats hip replacement surgery. I’ve had that done on my other hip and that is no fun. Getting old sucks.

Friday

 Off to the Orthopedic surgeon today. My left hip has been starting to hurt again. 6 months ago, Doc gave me a Cortisone shot which stopped the pain dead for almost 6 months. Last thing Doc said was "when it starts to hurt again call me". So I'm off this morning. These shots, sometimes they work sometimes not. Normally they give relief for a couple months. This one lasted 6 months. And even now, the pain is back, but not bad at all. Bicycling  is what helps. Even the Doc said it would. Good stuff.

Time to go. This week back in Georgia weather, sunshine and in the 70's to 80's. I'm loving it.

Back to Sea Level

So after a month or so of Appalachian living, we have returned to earth for at least a few weeks. Got to ride my bike today and at the end of 16 miles, while getting off, I lost my balance and crashed into the ground ending up on my side flat out with the bike on top. Welcome back!!! Hip hurts pretty bad this afternoon although there was no immediate flash of pain to indicate I damaged anything. Friday I'm going back to hip doctor and we will see where I stand (no pun intended) with my hip. Last time he gave me a cortisone shot which removed  the pain totally for 6 months. Hoping we can do that again.

In summary, I waited a month to get back to the bike and may have hurt the hip. 2 weeks till my 70th birthday. Everyone keeps telling me it is no big deal. They have no idea. I can't stand reaching this age where I cannot do what I once could easily. We shall see.

That's it. Oh yes it was 70f here today. Bright sunshine. They can't come close to that yet in the smokies. That place has the worst weather.

Back to Georgia tomorrow. Back to riding a real bicycle again. Dying to get back to it. Weather forecast this coming week 70’s to 80’s Wow!!! I won’t know how to act. Ah yes I’ll need the sunscreen once again!!!

the union the other night, AND , were impressed  with his speech, you are all just incredibly impressionable . Or more likely you are Trump haters and you just can't get over your disdain for Trump. That's incredible.

Thursday morning. Not quite mid February. Still too cold. I have had to ride my stationary bike indoors for far too many days in 2024. That creates a problem because I am all about riding my bicycles. And I am NOT riding with this continued windy cold weather here. So now I'm losing the urge to ride at all. And I have to fight that. That's in me.  The heck with it gene.  All my life I have stopped doing things I enjoy because conditions weren't just right. So anyhow nuff said there. I'm going out riding as soon as the temperature gets to my liking. Maybe an hour. But I have to get back on that horse again soon.

This weekend, we are going to Charlotte NC. Big court hearing for a family member in a very messed up scenario. Not gonna give details but I dread going. And I have to go. Not as a participant, but to provide moral support. Our legal system is broken. And lawyers? Can't stand them. That all I'll say. What a mess. The world is a crazy place indeed.

On a world news note, I do not see how this Tucker Carlson is helped anyone by going to Russia to interview Putin. Except for his own personal increase in stature. And for Putin. This is going to be the mother of all propaganda events. And it came to him. I'll bet he couldn't believe it when it was discussed. Not good. I don't trust Putin, Carlson either. And I am not talking politics here. I know Carlson is all about Trump and MAGA and all. That is fine. But this publicity stunt is not going to help. We are getting the world according to Putin story  I'm old enough to know that the Russkies are not and never will be our friends, This will make things worse. Tucker Carlson should stay home and investigate the crap out of our politicians. Both sides. There is enough dirty laundry to keep him digging for the rest of his life. Again, I'm NOT being political here. The Russians are going to use this against us. And Tucker is their shill. Not good.

On a lighter note, this weekend is the Super Bowl. As usual I have no idea who the 2 teams are. Nor do I care. Just quit talking about Taylor Swift...That's all I ask!!!!

Ok time to go get ready to ride my trusty steed. I think the Verve is up today. That is a Hybrid bike. My other is a Mountain Bike. Both made by Trek. Both really good.

 Peddling along on any given day in my baggy faded shorts with tee shirt and sweatshirt (s) depending on weather. My cycling footwear consists of Walmart Velcro sneakers size 11W $12.95. Maybe a hat maybe a helmet depending if I’m going out on a road. Very simple attire for a fun hobby. I have 2 bikes a hybrid (if I put aggressive tires then it would be a gravel bike) I also ride a mountain bike (less aggressive tires makes it  a gravel bike)

"Fred" is a derisive term used by "serious" road cyclists to describe other cyclists who do not conform to serious road cyclists' norms with regard to dress and equipment, and appear amateurish to them.

I have had “serious” road cyclists flip me the bird as I wave and pass going in opposite direction. Thus I must be a ”Fred”.
